General Statement of Duties
• Strive to support the district’s mission, instructional goals, and objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Greet visitors, ascertain nature of business, and conduct visitors to employer or appropriate
person, answer incoming calls. Assist patrons by providing information and referral to
appropriate person should their assistance be needed.
Secretarial Duties:
• Compose, type, and maintain routine correspondence, reports, assessments, and various
other materials and projects. Submit reports and documents as deemed necessary.
• Operate various equipment to include photocopier, telephone, fax machine, computer,
calculator, educational equipment, etc.
• Attend meetings, training, and seminars as deemed appropriate and necessary by the
district.
• Maintain confidentiality of work related information.
• Perform duties in a manner consistent with district policies, programs, and procedures, and
in compliance with safety standards.
• Due to the nature of the duties and to promote the efficient operations of the district, it is
necessary for the employee to work the assigned and scheduled shifts.
• Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary.
• Develop an understanding of the accounting system, district and school finance.
Accounting Duties:
• Enter purchase orders and requisition in the absence of the accounts payable person.
• Organize and maintain file system for various invoices, records, and reports.
• Reconcile vendor statements to invoices.
• Assist Business Manager and Accounts Payable Accountant on the completion of fiscal
year-end reports.
• Maintain and reconcile the district trust and agency accounts.
• Assist in HR/Payroll with the district employee leave records.

• Prepare outgoing mail when necessary.
Office Duties:
• Assist in the preparation and distribution of yearly supply bid lists and purchase orders.
• Maintain office supplies and equipment as necessary.
• Request and maintain end of year inventory lists from all district sites.
• Maintain office Medicaid records, prepare and submit claims, review reimbursements, and
make necessary adjustments.
Medicaid Duties:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or
ability required.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED. Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college
or technical school in business accounting, consumer financial services, business
administration, or related field preferred.
Education and Experience
• Two (2) years related experience and/or training in business operations and computerized
personnel systems; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be
acceptable to the hiring authority.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the area of accounting and auditing principles and
practices, professional office practices and procedures, computer technology, office
machines, and interpersonal relations.
• Work under pressure to meet tight time schedules and deadlines and handle significant
problems and tasks which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly.
Skills and Abilities
• Work well with colleagues, public entities, educational professionals, etc.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Write routine reports and correspondence.
• Speak effectively before groups of patrons or employees of the district.
• Possess an excellent command of business math knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrate proficiency in computer knowledge and skills.
• Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists.
• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
• Evidence that a criminal record background check has been conducted in accordance with
South Dakota Codified Law.
Certificates, Licenses, Examinations
• Successful competition in written tests and/or oral interviews.
• Other such examination as deemed necessary by the district.

While performing the duties of this job:
• The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with
