Job Title: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
Location: Herreid, Selby, Bowdle, and Hoven
Department: Special Education
Reports To: Director of Special Education
Employment Type: Full-Time
Start Date: Immediately
Oahe Special Education Cooperative, based in Java, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children ages birth to 5 who have diverse learning needs. This role involves creating and implementing individualized education programs (IFSPs/IEPs) tailored to each student's unique requirements. The teacher will work collaboratively with families, caregivers, and a multidisciplinary team to support the development of each child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
- IFSP/IEP Development: Design, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student in collaboration with parents, caregivers, and other educational professionals.
- Instruction: Deliver age-appropriate and differentiated instruction in various settings, including one-on-one, small groups, and classrooms.
- Assessment: Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other educators, specialists, and administrators to support student development and ensure consistency in educational practices.
- Family Engagement: Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers to discuss student progress, challenges, and successes. Provide guidance on how to support learning at home.
- Behavior Management: Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to manage and improve student behavior.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and early childhood education.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education or a related field.
- Certification: Valid state teaching license in Early Childhood Special Education.
- Experience: Previous experience working with young children in a special education setting is preferred but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of child development and early childhood education practices.
- Ability to create and implement individualized and differentiated lesson plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, creativity, and a passion for helping young children succeed.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and manage multiple responsibilities including paraprofessionals.
